You also do not need one if you are off sick for 7 calendar days or less, because you can self-certify your leave for this time – see guidance on employee’s statement of sickness to claim Statutory Sick Pay.

You do not need to go back to see your healthcare professional before going back to work. Your healthcare professional cannot give you a fit note stating that you are ‘fit for work’.
